Waiting for better decisions

TO THE EDITOR:

When will the Chisago County Board stop preferring to waste our tax dollars? It's a moot point to debate whether we're advancing $10,000 for the majority of our county board, or $3000 now per Commissioner Lynn Schultz, on the newspaper bid scenario. Either way you calculate, it was money that didn't need to be spent.

It's not an issue of having a windfall of information, or postponing decisions long enough; it's about being prepared to do a good job, fostering workable relationships with staff, and making wise decisions based on your own instinctive judgement. Quit attempting to point blame at everyone around, except yourselves for the poor decisions you make.

Why not just take the lowest bidder as state law requires the first time around? Come on commissioners, it didn't require having your hands held by two senior legal advisors, or a threat of lingering legal action, to force the right decision to save us all some money.

This one public bid involved advertising services with newspapers and the near waste of thousands of dollars. My concern is this - what about the thousands spent annually for public bids for road projects, architectural design, highway work, buildings, etc.? Will personal vendettas enter into those decisions or will the lowest bidder prevail. Must we monitor every board decision due to your questionable judgement?

Didn't you make campaign promises to control taxes and make wise decisions? Well, anytime folks, we're all waiting.
