Response to Christensen letter
TO THE EDITOR:
What's ahead for Nessel Township? We can only hope it's better than what's behind us.
Hopefully with better supervision our employee will stop cutting down trees on private property. Our insurance has paid out two settlements and one still pending.
Hopefully we won't build anymore cul-de-sacs on private property. (This hasn't been settled yet).
Hopefully we will not acquire a mountain of tires that are stored illegally on township property.
By the way, the road that was built with some of the tires was not built according to the plans that we paid a special engineer $4,000 to draw up.
Instead they did it their way. They were supposed to enclose the tires in a special fabric, then cover with gravel. Instead, they put the tires in the wetland, then put the fabric over the tires, then the gravel.
This will eventually break down and pollute our wonderful Rush Lake.
The decision to build the road the wrong way was made by three board members at the site. That is a violation of the open meeting law.
The same three members violated the open meeting law a second time when they decided to resurface Point Road before they knew if they had the $20,000 to pay for it.
Regarding the time sheets. I'm sure our employee knows how to fill them out. I've been at several meetings when this has been discussed. Maybe there is a day when he doesn't have anything to fill in. Why bother when Christensen will sign the time sheets and he will be paid regardless.
Last, but not least, there should not be perks for supervisors or anyone else. If they have been lending out township equipment for 30+ years, it's time for the supervisors to read their policy manuals and find out what laws and statutes and their jobs are all about.
We can only hope.
