Operation Round Up helps Ruby's repair forklift

Ruby's Pantry, a community outreach program of Home and Away Ministries, Pine City, recently received a $2,500 grant from East Central Energy's Operation Round Up Trust Board to help with equipment maintenance costs.

"Without the grant from East Central Energy's Operation Round Up at this important time, we could not have paid an unexpected repair bill to keep our forklift running," pointed out Lyn Sahr, founder and manager of Ruby's Pantry.

The organization operates a distribution center in North Branch, where large quantities of donated foodstuffs are received from food companies and distributed to church food pantries.

Lyn pointed out that food goes in and out of the distribution center fast.

"One week we handled 60,000 pounds of food," he reported, "and our forklift is a vital tool to keep everything moving.

"The machine recently needed repairs and the Operation Round Up check arrived in time to take care of the bill. That was a meaningful event. When you're struggling to keep going it's very moving to be recognized by a pillar of the community like ECE."

Operation Round Up is funded by ECE members who voluntarily have their electric bill rounded up each month to the next whole dollar.

The funds are distributed by an independent trust board which meets quarterly to review requests for donations.
