Ferne Elizabeth Linder, 85, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2006 at Holly Heights Nursing Home, Denver, Colo. Ferne, the daughter of Theodore Carlson and Irene Carlson (Magnuson) was born into a large family in rural Sunrise, Minn. on September 28, 1921. She attended schools in the local area, but after her marriage to Ellsworth M. Linder on February 20, 1940, she and her husband moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, where their two children were born. She served as a school secretary in the St. Paul school system and as an administrative assistant in the St. Paul Schools District Office.

She and her husband moved to Denver in 1962, where she again served as a school secretary and in the central office of the Denver Public Schools. She retired in 1979. After her husband retired in 1982 they traveled extensively and established a residence in Tucson, Ariz., later moving back to the Twin Cities.

After her husband's death in 1990, Ferne remained in Minnesota until 1994 when she returned to Denver to be near her daughter.

Ferne is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Buschagen, of Denver Colo., an Associate in Ministry at Faith Lutheran Church in Castle Rock, Colo.; her son, Darwyn Linder, of Littleton, Colo., Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Arizona State University; her grandsons, Jeffrey Buschagen, of Naples, Maine, and Mathew Buschagen of Silverdale, Wash.; and her sister, Etta Phenow, of Minneapolis, Minn. A memorial service was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Denver, at 2:00 p.m. on December 23, 2006. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery, St. Paul, MN at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007. Friends and family in Minnesota are invited to a memorial service at Zion Lutheran Church, 1697 Lafond Ave. St. Paul, MN 55104, at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2007. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1600 Grant St., Denver, CO 80203, in support of the Lutheran Disaster Relief Fund.
