Friends of the Library to unveil painting
Posted: 1/3/07
The Friends of the North Branch Library will be holding its annual meeting and celebration on Sat., Jan. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the community room at the North Branch Area Library. Several activities have been planned for that morning.
At 10:30, professional guitarist and singer, Mary Hall, will present a concert which revolves around the theme Moving Movie Music. Hall has appeared in various TV shows, concerts, and commercials, incorporating a wide repertoire of standard, pop, country, gospel, and show tunes.
Following the concert there will be a few words to honor former Chisago County Commissioner. Lora Walker, for her steadfast support and vote for our new library building. A plaque has been placed in the lobby by the Friends.
The final event is the unveiling of the painting "Oak Savanna" over the fireplace. The painting's theme of an oak savanna will allow those who see it to know what the area was like in the early days: A distinct zone between deciduous forest to the east and the treeless tall prairie to the west.
The painting was made possible by a matching grant from the East Central Arts Council and McKnight Foundation. The Friends of the Library commissioned local artist, Katherine Salverda, of Stacy, to do the work. Salverda's work has been exhibited in many places and is included in the permanent collection of the Rotary International, of Cambridge. In addition to painting in watercolor and pastel she is currently exploring a new medium ... oil pastel.
The public is invited to attend all of the events. Coffee and dessert will be served following the program.
