SWAT team called for firearm threat in RC

By Patrick Tepoorten

The quiet of an early Sunday morning was broken last weekend, as a threat call found the Sheriff's Office, the North Branch Police Department, and the county SWAT team converging on Rush City.

The Chisago County Sheriff's Office received the call of a threat with a firearm just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 8.

Units responded to the 1000 block of Sea Lane, where an individual was alleged to have threatened another with a gun.

The county SWAT team was brought in and deployed, as was deputy Mary McCarthy, who served as a negotiator.

McCarthy telephoned the suspect, who was reported to be "compliant" by Captain Keith Hoppe.

The suspect came out of the residence on his own and was taken into custody without incident just before 4 a.m. He is charged with felony second degree assault and fifth degree assault.
