Recently, Special Olympics North Branch Community "Vipers" attended the summer games at the University of Minnesota. In track and field the main competitions were shotput, runs, walks and jumps as well as wheel chair races.

There were three participants in the pentathalon (a series of 5 events including 400 and 100 meter runs, high jump, running long jump and shotput).

Two athletes also participated in powerlifting. Gold medals were earned by Dan Kowarsch and Walter Determan.

The newest sport, gymnastics, involved 10 athletes. Competitions included, parallel bars, floor exercise, balance beam and vaults.
