John "Jack" Utermoehl
John L. "Jack" Utermoehl, age 81 of Wyoming, formerly of North Branch, was born on June 25, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn. to John L. and Marie (Nahring) Utermoehl. He was raised and attended school in the St. Louis Park area graduating in 1944. He enlisted shortly thereafter and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the end of WWII. After his discharge he attended the University of Minnesota and later married Margorie Nelson in 1946. He worked as a purchasing agent for Federal Cartridge in New Brighton and also did numerous other jobs before moving to North Branch in 1968. He purchased the Long Branch Saloon in North Branch and ran that until selling the business and semi-retiring in 1987.
John loved to hunt and fish and enjoy the outdoors. He played the trombone in the high school band as well as in the U.S. Navy Band and the University of Minnesota Band.
He is survived by his three sons; John (special friend Laurie) Utermoehl of Stillwater; Tom (special friend Amy) Utermoehl of Pine City and Bill (Leslie) Nelson of Portsmouth, OH; Special friend, Betty; grandchildren, Jack, Joe, Tom Jr., Michael, Traci, Sara, Joshua, Victoria, Laura and Andrew. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
John died on Thursday, July 12 at the Greeley Healthcare Center in Stillwater at the age of 81 years.
Memorial service was held on Monday, July 16 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch with Tom Utermoehl, Jr. officiating. Interment took place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements were by Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch.
