Pie is the main focus at the annual 3 p.m. fund-raising auction at Braham Pie Day in Freedom Park along Hwy 107 in downtown Braham.

However this year the host of the contest and subsequent auction, the Braham Area Committee for Kids (BACK) will offer a 3-Peat basketball package to enhance buyers‚ delight in helping to raise funds for youth in the Greater Braham Area.  The sports package includes a ball, photos and a 3-peat hat from the Minnesota state championship Braham Boys‚ Basketball seasons. 

An added bonus and a separate item is an autographed baseball by Joe Mauer, the catcher for the MN Twins. He was the American League batting champion last year. Mauer has a special connection with Lory Lake in rural Braham, and his family is acquainted with some of the BACK organizers.  

BACK and Pie Day Committee member Marion Larson said, "He was raised in St. Paul and comes from a very well known sports family. His mom played volleyball on the St. Kate's college team that won a NCAA national championship. His folks are planning on coming to Pie Day." She continued, "We asked his mom to bake a pie for the auction, but she said, ‘I don't bake pie. You wouldn't want one from me.' " 

For those who do want to bake a pie, here are the guidelines. To compete in the pie auction and pie baking contest deliver your pies to Braham Lutheran Church between 8 and 10 a.m. in either nine or 10-inch pie tins. The tins will not be returned. Categories include: fresh fruit and/or cream, single crust, baked (includes custard pies), double crust, baked, junior division, ages 8-12 years and the Lifetime Achievement, ages 70 plus.

"You must bring both your pie and pie crust recipes with your entry," said Larson. There is an entry fee for each pie submitted. The church is located at West Central Drive and Co. Rd. 4.
