David E. Mathiesen
David Erling Mathiesen, the son of Duane and Dorothy (Mallinger) Mathiesen, was born April 21, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Rush City High School at Rush City, Minnesota.
David was a welder most of his life; building water towers throughout the United States. His first water tower project was in Stacy, Minnesota around 1978, and as Dave put it, he "traveled from state to state looking for a mate". On a blind date in Pennsylvania he met his wife--to-be at a Moose Lodge function. They were married January 24, 1987, in Alabama and the two traveled to Texas, Florida, and South Dakota building water towers. In 1988, the Mathiesen family moved to Harris, Minn. and David worked as a welder for Arrow Tank in Cambridge, Minn. David enjoyed being outdoors and engaged in all types of hunting and fishing.
David had many medical problems that impacted his life. Problems such as pancreatitis, endocarditis, renal failure and complications from bacterial sepsis which took his life on Saturday June 2, 2007 at the Cambridge Medical Center in Cambridge at the age of 47 years.
He is survived by his wife Lisa; sons Christian and Gregory at home; his mother, Dorothy Mathiesen of Harris; his sisters Laurie (Gary) Bromwich of Braham, Minn.and Kelly Ann (Kelly Paul) Hokanson of Rush City; mother-in-law, Gail Kost of Cresson, PA; grandmothers Ella Wallevand and Beatrice Halverson, both of Whapeton, ND; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many aunts, uncles, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Duane Mathiesen, father-in-law Walter Kost, his sister Renee Mathiesen Marable, and two grandfathers Herbert Mathiesen and Ransom Mallinger.
Funeral services were celebrated Friday, June 8, 2007 at the First Lutheran Church of Harris with the Reverend Conrad Warner officiating. Music was provided by Ms. Anita Ryberg. Casket Bearers included Steve Freedlund, Gary Bromwich, Jake Freedlund, Kelly Paul Hokanson, Jeff Krantz, and Michael Bromwich with the interment in the Sunrise Cemetery at Sunrise, Minn. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service, Olson Chapel, Rush City, Minn.
