Touched by the front page photo
TO THE EDITOR:
The story behind the Iris on the front page of the May 30 issue of the Post Review.
Neal Dueholm, my Dad, died two summers ago. He is buried at Fort Snelling but because of time constraints and my Mom's fragile health, our family could not make the trip to the cities to place flowers on his grave on Memorial Day.
My Mom, Olga Dueholm, purchased the paver at the Chisago County All-Veterans Memorial in Lindstrom in Dad's memory but had never seen it.
While home to Chisago City for the holiday I determined to find the paver, place a flower next to it for Mom and photograph it so she could share in the reality of her memorial. How disappointed I was to find the florist closed and the grocery store sold no flowers. Lovely irises grew alongside Flapper Janes, an antique store in Lindstrom. We stopped to ask if I could purchase one for the Memorial. The generous gentleman there said I could have one at no charge. Thanks to the generosity of a stranger my Mother's favorite flower was laid on the pavers next to Dad's name.
I took the picture and I see you did too. My Mother was deeply touched and so was I. Thank you!
