Alice Olson
Alice Olson, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Daw) Nelson, was born October 7, 1908 at the Rush City Hospital in Rush City, Minnesota. Her father emigrated from Sweden at the age of 19; her mother was born and raised in Minnesota.
Alice grew up in Rush City and attended Rush City schools with her sisters Emma, Laura, Mary and Luella, and her brothers George, Charlie, Joel and Arthur.
When she was 19, Alice married Carl A. Olson and they made their home on a farm in the Rush City area. Besides working together on their farm raising cows, horses, and chickens, Carl also worked at the Rush City Mill. Alice was employed as a housekeeper at the Rush City Hospital, a job that she enjoyed very much.
Alice and Carl loved to travel in their black Chevy and made several trips to Iowa, Wisconsin, and Canada. She enjoyed going to the county fairs, picking blueberries, and was a member of a local club that worked at auctions. In 1988, Alice took her first airplane ride and had the opportunity to view the area and town she always lived in.
Alice was a gentle lady with a pleasant personality that everyone enjoyed knowing.
A long-time resident of the Golden LivingCenter (formerly Hillcrest Health Care Center) in Rush City, she died there on May 30, 2007 at the age of 98 years. She is survived by her grandchildren: Scott Wistrom of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Lori & Scott Lindstrom of Rush City, and Jeanna & Travis O'Donovan of Pine City, Minn.; great grandchildren: Chris Lindstrom, Tim Lindstrom, Josh Wistrom, Cody O'Donovan, and Bailey O'Donovan; and her son-in-law, Rick Wistrom of Rush City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Emma Nelson, daughters Carol Wistrom and Lois Olson, and her sisters and brothers Emma, Laura, Mary, George, Charlie, Joel, Arthur, and Luella.
