Former North Branch student recreates university in a box

After graduating from North Branch High School in 2003, Nick Lindberg continued his successful academic career at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. In September 2006, Nick began a year-long course, Entrepreneurship in Action, at the Curtis L. Carlson School of Management Through this course students have the opportunity to create, launch and operate a real business.

"Students are able to learn how to launch and operate real business, using real money, while facing real financial risk. Risking $15,000 of capital, these undergraduate entrepreneurship students struck licensing and vendor agreements with manufacturers from around the world to manufacture 1,750 board games; 1,250 of which they have already pre-sold. This accomplishment is a representation of their hard work and commitment to providing a high quality product," says Seth Werner, Entrepreneurship In Action course instructor. "Beyond the unique learning experience the students receive, the University of Minnesota also benefits by receiving all of the profits from the business. For example, last year the profits were used to create a scholarship."

Lindberg has taken an active role as Financial Lead in Gopheropoly, LLC. Gopheropoly is your favorite board game with a Minnesota twist. "Our business, comprised of 19 students, designed Gopheropoly to represent our campus; players can purchase University landmarks while avoiding pitfalls such as paying tuition," says Lindberg. "We, as students of the University, created Gopheropoly for students, staff, alumni, and all fans of the University of Minnesota."
