Local orchestra to present Handel's Messiah

Posted: 3/28/07

The St Croix Valley Orchestra will be presenting Handel's Messiah the weekend before Easter in two locations in this area. This is the 16th season for the chamber orchestra which was spawned by the enthusiastic response of musicians who got together to perform Messiah in 1991. The orchestra is under the direction of Randolph Elliott.

The first concert will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom on Saturday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m.; the second will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in St Croix Falls on Sunday, April 1, at 3 p.m.

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear parts of the oratorio not always included at Christmas time, when it is often presented. Messiah is not only a great musical work but also a timely reminder of the entire life of Christ as many people prepare for Easter. The performance will include outstanding vocal soloists, and accompaniment for the audience to sing nine of the marvelous choruses that Handel wrote.

With support of some local businesses, admission is offered by donation at the concerts. For more information see the orchestra Web site www.scvorchestra.org. Bring your vocal scores (many local church choirs have them) and come enjoy being part of this long standing music tradition.
