Rush City says good-bye to season


A group of Rush City and Peirz players battle for a rebound durng the section quarterfinals March 8 in Periz.

Turnovers and their opponent's quickness hamstrung the Rush City Tigers as they tried to earn there way to victory in the section playoffs.

The Tigers committed 25 turnovers in an 87-57 loss to the Pierz Pioneers in the Section 6AA quarterfinals March 8. Pierz advances to play Foley March 10 in Milaca.

Letting the Tigers walk away with a win on their home court was not what Pierz Pioneers had in mind as they sailed past Rush City by 30 points. The game was never in doubt as the the Pioneers had a commanding 27 point advantage at the end of the first half.

"We played very hard. Their team speed took us out of the game instantly," head coach Gary Dreissig said.

Aside from committing 25 turnovers, the Tigers were 2 for 17, or 11 percent from behind the arc and were outrebounded 31-26.

The loss put an end to the Tigers' season and marked the end of head coach Gary Dreissig's nearly 30 year coaching career.

Jake Bosman finished his career as a Tiger with a bang. He led the team in scoring with 23 points, on 6 of 12 from the floor.

Andy Erickson added 13 points and five rebounds in the loss.

"We got off to a very poor start, falling behind 20-4," Dreissig said. "We could not control their quickness as they got layup after layup."

Seniors John Kirchberg, Kyle Peterson, Jake Bosman, Jeff Jennings, Nick Behrendt, Jerred Nelson and Josh Beck all played in their last game for Rush City.

"I would personally like to thank our seven seniors for their dedication throughout their basketball careers," Dreissig said.
