The Rush City girls softball team was able to piece together a two-game winning streak. On May 11, the Tigers downed Hinckley-Finlayson 4-2.
Janet Kemen was on the mound and struck out 16 batters in the win. Head coach Kim Erdman called the win a team effort.
Scoring runs for the Tigers were Katie Widman, Amy Carlson, Justine Prettner and Amanda Lopez.
For their second win a row, Carlson hit a three-run in the park home run in the first inning to help lift her team past the Braham Bombers on May 10.
The Tigers added three more runs to win the game 6-4. Justine Prettner went 3-3 and Tomi Schellbach went 2-3.
Kemen was on the of the mound for Rush City. She went the distance striking out 14.
Aitkin
The Tigers left eight runners stranded in the first three innings against Aitkin en route to a 6-1 loss May 3 on the road.
Kemen pitched the complete game for the Tigers striking out five and walking one.
Chelsea Peterson scored the Tigers only run of the game.
Brittney Scheffer got two hits for the Tigers, while Sammi Luckoff, Amanda Lopez, Justine Prettner and Kemen each recorded one hit a piece.
Things didn't improve the following day as the girls played the Ogilvie Lions and lost in a 9-0 landslide.
Kemen pitched the complete game but had trouble controlling her pitches and gave up seven walks on the night.
Prettner, Kemen and Bethany Peters each had hits for the Tigers.
"The Lions played a very good defensive game," Erdman said.
After two consecutive games on the road, the girls played in front of their home crowd. In a tight game, the girls caved in the end 6-5 to Hinckley-Finlayson May 8. Erdman said it was a few miscues at the end of the game that cost them the game.
"We played hard until the end," Erdman said.
Emilee Grimes caught her first varsity game for the Tigers and went two for four at the plate.
Kemen was also on the mark at the plate, going three for four and scoring two runs for the Tigers.
Once again Kemen pitched for the Tigers. Her control was more intact as she managed to not walk a single batter all game.
"Janet pitched a nice game," Erdman said.
