By week's end, the Rush City baseball dropped two of three and just managed to keep their head above the .500 mark, with a 6-5 record overall.
Against the Braham Bombers on May 11, the Tigers couldn't be stopped and crushed the Bombers 16-2 in five innings.
The Tigers had 13 hits on the night, including eight different players with at least one hit. The game may have been decided after the first inning as the Tigers scored nine in their first at bat.
Junior Jason Benson had two hits including a triple and three RBI's.
Jake Bosman took the win on the mound for the Tigers going five innings and giving up five hits and striking out 10.
"We played a very solid game against Braham," head coach Bob Schlagel said.
From the Braham game, things cooled off, so to speak, for the Tigers. They lost the next two games against Brooklyn Center and Hinckley.
On May 10, the boys didn't come ready to play and lost 10-4 and committed an uncharacteristic seven turnovers in the game.
Their coach wasn't too impressed. He said their were no highlights to speak of.
Senior Josh Ehrreich had three singles on the game.
Hinckley-Finlayson
With a three-run lead heading into the fifth inning, the Tigers had Hinckley-Finlayson under control. After a pep talk from the Jaguars head coach, Hinckley unleashed six runs and crawled their way back into game.
Rush City couldn't recover from the blow and lost in nine innings 9-7.
But they didn't go down without a fight. The Tigers scored four runs to tie the game at seven and force extra innings.
"We had our chances to score but we hit into three double plays which hurt us," Schlagel said.
Bosman took the loss on the mound for the Tigers. He pitched the distance, while striking out eight, walking three and giving up nine hits.
Ehrreich showed his experience at the plate, drilling a bases-loaded double to score three runs. On the day, he had four hits. As a team, the boys recorded eight hits on the day.
"We played well except for one inning when we gave up six runs and committed two costly errors," Schlagel said.
