Boys depth proves true asset for RC boys track

Head coach Mike Vaughan knew his boys team would be good, but he had no idea they would be this good. The Rush City boys track team still has not lost a meet this season

They kept the streak alive on April 26 when the took first out of eight teams at their home meet. In all the boys collected 214 points while the next closest team ended with 139.

"I have been really pleased. It has been a good team to coach," Vaughan said.

Vaughan went to say the boys team has exceeded his expectations this year.

The 4x100 relay team of Josh Marty, Ethan Turner, Blake Rustad and Jeff Jennings took first with a time of 46.37. The 4x200 relay of Justin Carmichael, Marty, James Fleming and Turner took first with a time of 1:41. Earning a second place finish was the 4x800 relay team of Zac Sheele, Reilly Melin, Ben Cook and Carmichael with a time of 9:18.

The Rush City girls track team has been improving all year. Vaughan said. Alison Toering has been the surprise so far this year for the Tigers. In the past couple meets she has taken first twice in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles.

Vaughan said he is happy with the work of his senior leaders this season.

The girls had three second place finishes at their home meet April 26.

The 4x200 relay team of Derra Gullickson, Katie Turner, Amber Hoffman, and Danielle Kirchberg took second with a time 1:57. The 4x400 relay team of Gullickson, Laura Hestbeck and Hoffman took 2nd with a time of 4:31.

Rounding off second place finishes was the 4x800 relay team of Hestbeck, Heather Herberg, Ashley Swanson and Bryanna Koehnle with a time of 11:05.
