Relays give Vikes a boost at Cambridge Invite

Sara Swanson, Nick Ramberg and the 4x800 relay team competed in the Hamline Elite meet April 26. The North Branch athletes competed against some of the best competition in the state and saw where they need to be come the section meet.

The 4x800 relay team of Aaron Cedergren, JJ Koerber, Cody Good and Nick Ramberg placed fifth overall with a time of 8:11. Swanson finished the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.83, good enough for a 13th place finish. Ramberg ran the 800 in 1:57 and did not place. Head coach Brian Hasleiet said it was a great experience for the runners to compete with some of the best athletes in the state.

While North Branch's top athletes were at Hamline, the rest of the crew was competing at the Cambridge meet.

Junior Jared Grams had a big day for the boys. He took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.17, was on the second place 4x200 relay team and took first in the long jump.

The 4x200 relay team of TJ Leason, Joe Klun, Brian Grand, and Grams finished with a time of 1:35.

Girls track

The girls had a strong showing by the 4x200 relay team, who took first place. Allyssa Houle, Sadie Kolke, Tess Prouty-Kunshier and Kacie Ramberg finished with a time of 1:53.

Randi Zentner took third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17:57.

Hasleiet was happy with both team's performances and hopes they will be ready when it matters at the section meets.

"We have our really big meets coming up within the next couple of weeks and we seem to be starting to peak at the right time," Hasleiet said.
