Dahl, Marty lead boys; three girls set PR's

The Rush City boys track team came in third place out of six teams at the Chisago Lakes Invitational May 4.

Seniors Josh Dahl and Jeremy Marty both took home first-place finishes.

Dahl won the 800 meter run in 2:02. Marty took first in the 110 high hurdles, 300 hurdles and triple jump.

The relay team's also had strong performances for Rush City. The 4x100 and 4x400 took both took second place.

"We had a lot of strong performances against some of the toughest competition we have seen this year," head coach Mike Vaughan said. "We had some of our best performances of the year."

The girls ran at the same meet and placed around the middle of the pack. They took fourth out of seven teams with 88 points.

At the meet, the field events shined for the girls. Emily Swanson took second in the discus, while recording a personal record of 92-09. Andrea Becker took third in the shot put and recorded a personal best with a throw of 31-02.

Vaughn said he is excited by the performances of his field events.

"Suddenly we have some young talent in throwing events that we have been typically weaker in," Vaughan said.

In the distance events, Laura Hestbeck took second in the two mile and recorded her personal best with a time of 12:28.

The 4x100 and 4x200 also took third at the meet.

On May 3, both the boys and girls were at the Barnum meet. Both took first place.

Hestbeck took first in the mile with a time of 5:46 and in the two mile with a time of 12:50. The 4x100 team took first in 1:03. Katie Turner took first in the triple jump at 29-01.

On the boys side, Dahl took first in the 800 in 2:04 and mile, 4:49. Marty took first in the 110 hurdles in 16.19, 300 hurdles 43.55. Also, the 4x100 relay took first.
