Eagles make Vikes suffer for errors

One bad inning spoiled the batch for North Branch as the softball team surrendered to the Totino-Grace Eagles 8-1 May 2 on the road.

North Branch had four errors in the fifth inning and the Eagles took full advantage, scoring five runs to break the game wide-open.

"It was a good ball game spoiled by one inning of bad defense," head coach Ron Trunk said. "We're looking forward to getting back on the field and proving we are a better defensive team."

Megan Ranger scored the only run for the Vikings. Steph Saxe hit a double and Ranger, Kayla Obitz and Elise Holmstrom had singles for the Vikes

Versus the Fridley Tigers on April 30, it was a different story as the Vikings unleashed a furry of hits and runs.

North Branch scattered seven runs over three innings to take the 7-1 win. Tiffany Good was on the mound and earned the win for the Vikes. She pitched the distance striking out five while walking two.

Megan Aho had a peak performance at the plate. She was three for three with a walk and an RBI. Ranger also hit well, collecting four hits and four RBI's. Danni Sonnenfeld, Elise Holmstrom and Allyssa Peterson also had hits for the Vikings.

"It's encouraging to see our hitters and pitchers continue to improve," Trunk said. "That was an area we struggled with early in the year."
