Girls dominate Chisago Invite


Ready, set GO! Freshman Sara Swanson waits in the starting block before the 100 meter dash at the Chisago Lakes Invite May 4. Swanson won the race with a time of 13.44. She also took first in the 400, 200 and long jump.

The North Branch girls track team took first place in a commanding way at the Chisago Lakes Invitational May 4. The girls dominated the competition, winning by an impressive 132 points. The girls finished with 285 points. Next in line was Chisago Lakes with 153.5 points.

Freshman sensation Sara Swanson claimed first place in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 200 meter dash and long jump.

"Our girls really showed our depth by placing in every event. We were able to score a lot of points in almost every event and I believe that it gave our girls a lot of confidence going into some of our biggest meets that are coming up on our schedule," head coach Brian Hasleiet said.

It took a total team effort to launch the girls into first place.

Helping the cause was Ali Zimmerman who took first in the mile with a time of 5:42. Stephanie Lippo earned first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.64. Miranda Charley won the 800 in 2:29.

The 4x400 relay finished first in 4:21. Relay members were Meggie Johnson, Cathryn Bettendorf, Sadie Kolke, and Charley.

For the Pole Vault, Amanda Johnson took first with a height of 7-6.

BOYS TRACK

With a constant rain, the North Branch boys track team took 2nd place out of six teams at the Chisago Lakes Invitational May 4.

The boys were 13 points shy of first place Chisago who finished with 147 points.

In all, the boys took home four first place finishes.

"Our boys also had a very nice meet especially when you take into consideration that we had a couple of guys who weren't able to compete at this meet," Hasleiet said.

Sophomore Michael Heidelberger had a big day for the boys. He won the 3200 with a time of 10:43, nearly seven seconds faster than the second-place finisher. He also ran the first leg of the first-place 4x800 relay team. The team was made up of Heidelberger, Brandon Nagle, Zach Good and Aaron Cedergren finished with with a time of 8:47.

The 4x400 relay team also took first with a time of 3:38. Team members were Cedergren, JJ Koeber, Good, and Nick Ramberg.

Ramberg also took first in the 1600 meter Spring Medley relay.

In the field events, Josh Ditsworth claimed first place with a throw of 44-9.5.
