RC students share their Prom with Golden LivingCenter residents
On the afternoon of April 28, as the butterflies started to stir in the stomachs of Rush City High School students in anticipation of a fun evening at the Prom, 58 of these young people made a decision that affected many older members of the Rush City community.
Their first stop before Prom was not at the Grand March, but at Golden LivingCenter (formerly Hillcrest Health Care Center) for a first-ever pre-Prom open house. Brenda Dahl and Cathy Steiner, who work at the nursing home, coordinated the event and RCHS counselor Doreen Karlsson encouraged the students to attend.
The prom goers were invited to stop at the home to share the glitter and glitz of the day with the residents. While there, the students even held a mini-Grand March so the residents could see all the finery for the annual dance. Old Prom photos were dragged out of storage and memories were shared along with many smiles, and maybe a tear or two. Said Dahl, "How cool to bring the Grand March to these people.
