Who do we serve?
TO THE EDITOR:
When are we the citizens of Harris going to wake up to all the craziness that goes on in our small town? I voted for Rick Smisson in the last election because going to a town hall meeting I felt he would be the best to represent my town. I'm sorry for that now. A few years ago we were made to be a big embarrassment by all the talk about the bars, now once again embarrassment, but this time by our mayor and some fireman. It was always under the belief that a person was innocent until proven guilty. Not so in the city of Harris, you are made out to be guilty nationwide until proven innocent.
We the people of Harris are getting billed for lawyers' fees for our mayor and city officials because they feel the need to draw attention to themselves. I think at this point with having to have two extra lawyers to keep our mayor's head above water, we should be asking ourselves why? If we don't follow the rules we must pay our own lawyer's fees.
At that town meeting Pastor Neil Bonkoski from the Covenant Church volunteered his services as chaplain for the Harris Fire Department, as of yet he has not visited Andy (a fireman) one time. Is he only serving the mayor instead of the God he took an oath to serve?
If your name had been destroyed to the point that Andy's has by city officials in the media, how would you feel?
I look at life this way when I get to the end of my life and stand before God to answer for my life and for the things I have done or for the things I should have done and didn't. I don't want this matter to be one of the things I should have spoken out about and didn't. When I hear how these people can try and destroy a life, I hope and pray for my grandson that he can stay strong with help of God, family and friends to withstand these people.
I wish to personally thank Patrick Tepoorten for his article in last week's paper.
It is time for the people of Harris to stand up for what is right in the city of Harris.
A concerned Harris citizen,
Grandma Margie Swanson
