Spiders of the north woods
Posted: 11/14/07
Mark your calendars for 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Chisago Lakes Library when Wild River Audubon hosts Larry Weber and his program on spiders. Weber's book, "Spiders of the North Woods," is small and limited in the number of species described, but it's a good starter field guide. Weber does a good job of selecting spiders that are most likely to be encountered in fields, gardens, forests and around buildings. Got a spider you want identified? Bring it to the meeting
Weber lives on a farm in northeastern Minnesota where he pursues critters with a camera, close-up lens and field guide. He has taught science for nearly 30 years in Duluth, Minn. In 1993 he was named Minnesota Science Teacher of the Year. He is also author of "Butterflies of the North Woods," and "Fascinating Fungi of the North Woods."
