Thursday, Nov. 15, 1- 4 p.m. at the Chisago County Senior Center, Medicare and Medical Assistance (sorry, no HMO's ) has a benefit for diabetics that covers one pair of therapeutic shoes plus three pair of heat-moldable inserts per calendar year. If you got shoes in 2006 or earlier, you are now eligible for 2007 shoes. A Certified Pedorthist from Orthotics Geriatrics, Inc. will be here to explain this benefit and also the importance of proper footcare and the special features of diabetic footwear. There will be a selection of shoes certified for diabetics. You can pick the style of shoe you want. Your feet will be measured and examined and the proper paperwork will be filled out and sent to your doctor for approval. No doctor visit is necessary. After approval, the shoes will be hand delivered and fitted to you. Bring your Medicare card, doctors' name and address, secondary insurance card if you have one.
