Volleyball gets in end-of-season groove
On Sept. 25, the North Branch girls volleyball team faced off against crosstown rival Chisago Lakes and lost in three matches 10-25, 12-25, 15-25.
Head coach Kari Francis said the game was a tough loss to a big rival.
"We really couldn't get anything going all night. Chisago outplayed us in every aspect of the game. They have really been performing well, and we didn't rise to the challenge," she said.
Fridley
Two days later on Sept. 27, the girls played Fridley and earned the win in three matches.
"We had an intense practice on the Wednesday after the loss to Chisago Lakes to regain our focus. They responded on Thursday night and played a very consistent match from the first serve to the last," Francis said.
Junior middle hitter Lindsay Hilde lead the team with 10 kills and five aces on the night and junior outside hitter Megan Scherer had nine aces.
Senior right side hitter Ashley Johnson had eight kills in the win.
Duluth East Tournament
On Sept. 29, the girls traveled north and played in the Duluth East Tournament, only to fall to Hill-Murray, Duluth East and Cambridge-Isanti before pulling off a win versus Buffalo.
"This weekend was up and down depending on the match. We would make great plays and then follow them up with a few not very good plays; it was as though we were on a roller coaster. We are working at being more consistent throughout the entire match," Francis said.
