V-Ball battles conference foes

The North Branch volleyball team outplayed the St. Francis Saints but couldn't come together when it mattered the most, losing in four matches Oct. 2 at home.
"We came out strong in game one and played very consistent volleyball. The next two games were very close, and we had our chances but didn't capitalize on their mistakes. It was a tough loss at home, since we outplayed them most of the match but couldn't find a way to score points in tough pressure situations," head coach Kari Francis said.
Spring Lake Park
Looking to get back on the winning track, the girls battled Spring Lake Park on Oct. 4, only to walk away empty handed with a loss in four matches.
"SLP is a good solid volleyball team. We knew it was going to be a tough match, and we needed to play consistent. After going down 0-2, we showed some resiliency in coming back and taking game three," Francis said.
Lakeville North Tournament
On Oct. 5 the girls played in the Lakeville North Tournament, which Francis claims is one of the premier tournaments in the state.
When all was said and done, the girls lost to Lakeville North, beat Watertown-Mayer before losing to Eastview and Lakeville South.
Heading into the tournament, Francis new it was going to be tough to wins games.
"We played a great match against Watertown-Mayer. We really seemed to put everything together against a good team and earned the win. It was a busy week for us. Wins were hard to come by, but we feel as though we are making strides in the right direction and hope to put it together for the remainder of the regular season and carry that into post season play," Francis said.
