RC football falls short of victory
It was a rough night under the lights for the Rush City football as they let a win slip out of their hands against the Esko Eskomos on Oct. 11 at home.
When the final whistle blew, it was Rush City 12, Esko 35.
It was the second straight loss and 5th of the year for the boys.
Esko struck first blood when they scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter. The Tigers countered with a score of their own when Ethan Turner had a 14-yard run to get the Tigers on the board.
Rush City didn't score next until the third quarter when Bill Cort had a one-yard touchdown run.
"In this game, we allowed Esko to control the ball far too much and on our side of the ball we did not sustain drives consistently," head coach Greg Hills said.
Blue and Gold collected 114 rushing yards on the night, with Jason Benson leading the with way 10 carries for 64 yards.
Rush City's rushing game was peanuts when stacked against Esko's, who ended the game with 315 yards.
Quarterback Justin "Red" Bosman went 8 for 20 for 100 yards with two interceptions.
Three of Bosman's passes connected with Corry Sarago who ended with 66 receiving yards.
"We had chances to stay within one touchdown, but turnovers hurt our chances," Hills said. "We need to run more offensive plays to give us more opportunities to score and to keep our defense off the field."
The Tigers finish the regular season play with a classic battle with the Braham Bombers on Wednesday on the road.
"We will be looking to sustain more drives and put more points on the board against Braham on Wednesday. It is important to our team to have some positives to build on, going in to our section playoffs," Hills said.
