Girls score 18 goals in two games

Goals have been hard to come by for the North Branch girls soccer team this season.

Such was not the case last week as the girls offense exploded to score 11 goals in a win versus the Agricultural & Food Sciences Academy on Oct. and seven goals in a win 7-1 against Columbia Heights Sept. 27.

On the game against the Hylanders, coach Peter Grand said he wanted to demonstrate good sportsmanship by not running the score up.

"I was really pleased by our first half performance. The players were focused and did a lot of those things we had practiced the days before," he said.

Versus the Agricultural & Food Sciences Academy, the girls played hard for their last home game of the year, Grand said.

"The second half was played really well by the girls. I was glad that so many players contributed to make it happen. We saw nine different players score goals. Being up so comfortably I was able to provide our bench players with additional minutes, and give my starters more resting time before heading into the last conference games against Benilde-St. Margaret and Irondale, and further on going into sectional next week. I am proud of our team and maybe, if they continue to improve at this pace, the girls are able to surprise at sectional. It's so much fun to work with this group," Grand said.
