After losing the first three games of the season, the Rush City Tigers are now starting to gel as a team.
Their coming together is evident in the boys homecoming victory over Crosby-Ironton.
In front of a robust crowd, the boys defeated the Rangers 42-18.
By halftime, the Tigers had a commanding 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
"We got off to a great start against Crosby-Ironton and were able to move the ball and put points on the board. We had numerous big plays on both sides of the ball, which enabled us to build a 28-0 halftime lead," head coach Greg Hills said.
Bill Cort started off the scoring with a one-yard run in the first quarter. Soon, Ethan Turner added six more points, also on a one-yard run,
Justin "Red" Bosman took the snaps in the quarterback slot for the Tigers. He finished the game passing for 183 yards on 19 attempts including one touchdown pass to James Fregien in the second quarter.
Rush City's secondary was impressive. The team had five interceptions in total, two of which they ran back for scores.
Bosman, Ethan Turner, Cory Sarago, Jason Benson and Jon Watts each had interceptions.
On the defensive side of the ball, Josh Marty led the team with 14 tackles, followed by Bill Cort with 13 and Luke Carlson with eight.
Hills said he was pleased with the play of his team's special teams and they helped earn the win.
The Rangers got on the board in the third quarter but it was too little too late.
"I felt we made good improvement in many areas, particularly in the offensive line. We had a lull in intensity at the beginning of the second half, which hurt us ...," Hills said.
Up next, the boys battle the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars in a conference match up.
"We will need to take another step forward against a solid Hinckley-Finlayson team, who have only one loss; but if we continue to play hard, tough football, we will give ourselves the opportunity to be successful," Hills said.
Pine City 2-0, 4-1; Braham 2-1, 2-3; Rush City 2-1, 2-3; Hinckley-Finlayson 1-1, 4-1; Crosby-Ironton 0-2, 1-4, Aitkin 0-2, 0-5.
