Rush City halted by lack of consistency and the Rebels' punishing rushing attack
The Rush City Tigers had no answer to Moose Lake/Willow River's punishing ground game as the Tigers lost their second game of the year by a score of 48-12.
The Rebels carried the ball 380 yards on 59 attempts to earn the victory at home.
Rush City managed to gain just 117 yards on the ground in four quarters of play.
The Tigers held the Rebels scoreless after the first quarter of play before the defense fell apart and gave up five touchdowns in the second quarter.
"We were unable to establish any real offensive consistency for most of the game. After a strong first quarter defensively, we were unable to stop their running attack," head coach Greg Hills said.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Tigers were facing a shut-out but were able to score two times before time expired.
Scoring touchdowns for the Tigers were Justin Carmichael, who had a one-yard run for the score, and Dylan Truskolaski who ran seven yards for six points.
In the air, the Tigers went four for 11 for a total of 61 yards.
Sophomore Justin Bosman completed three of 10 passes for 21 yards and Dylan Truskolaksi connected with Josh Marty for a gain of 40 yards.
Jason Benson led the team with tackles, finishing the game with 13 tackles.
Last week, the Tigers fell to Deer River 26-13.
Rush City looks to get on the winning track on Friday with a home game against Pine City.
"We will have be more physical in our upcoming game with Pine City, which will help us to maintain consistency and control the ball better. This is our first conference game and we are hoping to get our crowd behind us at home this Friday and get on the winning track," Hills said.
