The North Branch girls cross country dominated the competition on its first home meet of the year Sept. 13.

The girl claimed six of the first eight spots en route to the first place finish.

Miranda Charley paced the girls with first place finish, ending with a time of 16:27.

Ali Zimmerman wasn't far behind and ended two seconds slower than her teammate.

"Our girls were very impressive finishing with a perfect score of 15 points. We did a very nice job running in a pack and working together. It's just like practice for these girls. They push each other in practice and in the meets," head coach Brian Hasleiet said.

On the boys side, Mike Heidelberger took first place, ending in a time of 17:37. He took the lead with about 800 meters to go and held it the rest of the way. Ryan Norman took third place in 17:44.

"Our top two boys ran very smart races and finished very well. If Norman would have a little more time, I think he would have taken second place."

Hasleiet said they need their third through seventh runners to close the gap just a little bit.

"All of our kids, middle school through varsity, have been improving every week," he said.
