On Sept. 17, the Rush City Tigers let a match against the Pine City Dragons slip away, losing 3-2.

Brittany Scheffer had 10 kills and three ace serves in the loss.

"If we keep working hard, good things will happen," head coach Eric Telander said.

On Nov. 13, the girls fell to conference rival East Central in four matches.

Jasirae Novak had four kills and one ace serve in the loss.

Scheffer added three kills and three ace serves.

Pine City Invite

Let's just say the girls didn't have their best showing at the Pine City Invitational Sept. 8.

The girls dropped games to the Grantsburg Pirates, the Pine City Dragons and the Barnum Bombers in the tournament.

Telander said his goal was to play tough the entire tournament.

"We didn't give away any games and we were competitive in all," he said.

Junior Sammy Edwards compiled 24 digs for the weekend.

Scheffer ended with 10 ace serves and 15 kills.

"A tough weekend. They worked hard but things just didn't go our way," Telander said.

After the Pine City tournament, the girls had their sights on the Braham Bombers.

In a hard-fought match, the girls fell in three matches.

Rush City had some sparks, led by the serving and hitting of Tomi Schellbach. At one point, the Tigers were leading 9-7 in game one.

Emille Grimes had a couple stretches of good hitting but poor serving hurt any chances for the Tigers.

In all the girls had four missed serves in game one, seven missed serves in game two, and four missed serves in game three.

"We need to find a way to win. They have the tools, they just need to come together as a team and figure it out," Telander said.
