Stacy proposes 23 percent levy increase
By Anne Thom
At the end of what turned out to be a long meeting of the Stacy City Council, Resolution 2007-09-01 passed three minutes before midnight.
A total levy of $403,442 is proposed for 2008, on a total proposed budget of $418,442.
This is an approximate 23 percent increase over 2007.
The budget and levy will be finalized Dec. 10; the Truth in Taxation meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Councilor Robert Wilson suggested cutting public safety saying "we're paying for Lent's police patrol over there." No other councilors had suggestions for cuts; however Mayor John Daher had requested adding to professional legal fees to continue an annexation battle with the City of Wyoming and Wyoming Township.
Daher had to remind Councilor Tony Olivolo of the pending case when Olivolo suggested taking the $13,250 allocated for legal fees and moving the money somewhere else. The city has spent approximately $50,000 in legal expenses on this case to date. $30,000 the council felt would be "enough to keep the ball rolling."
