Rochester man drowns in Chisago Lake

A Rochester man died at Chisago Lake Friday night while he was attempting to get from a boat onto a dock.

Bystanders called 911 at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 31, and reported that a man was trapped under a boat. By the time law enforcement and first responders arrived on the scene, Howard Vernon Hyde, 64, had been brought up on land and bystanders were performing CPR.

According to Lt. Steve Pouti of the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, witnesses stated that Hyde fell between a boat and the dock as he was exiting the boat.

CPR was administered until around 10:15, at which time Hyde was pronounced dead.
