It's Apple Festival time again in Almelund

Posted: 9/5/07

Celebrate Autumn in Amador on Sunday, Sept. 16 for the 14th Annual Apple Festival in Almelund.

The Friends of the Amador Heritage Center and many other local businesses and organizations sponsor this family event introducing families and children to history -- in a fun way. Almelund is along Hwy. 95 between Taylors Falls and North Branch. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Follow the bright green signs.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather, museum displays, Model T rides and an arts and craft show. A quilt show will be held in the 1869 log cabin. Make sure you visit the newly constructed primitive log cabin and the log granary. Take a walk through the 17-acre site and enjoy the peace and solitude of the area. There are three log cabins and a log granary on the site. Can you demonstrate an old time occupation or craft? Would you like to help someone with a demonstration? Volunteers needed -- do you have a couple of hours?

Call Lin (651) 269-3580 or LeeAnn at (651) 583-3121 to offer your time.

There are displays in the museum and crafts for kids. You won't want to miss the delicious apple foods including homemade hot apple butter sundaes, hot apple butter served on home baked bread, apple pie and other wonderful apple desserts, dried apples, caramel apples, apple cider, Rod's famous Swedish sausage on a stick and lots more. You can even experience caramel apple cotton candy.

There will be musicians all through the day along with storytellers and other entertainment. Enjoy an old-fashioned day in an old-fashioned village. Bring your lawn chair and spend the day listening to great musical groups. Many other events for children and their parents.

This event is just one of the ways the museum has celebrated its 29th anniversary this summer. The museum is located in the two room brick school house in the hamlet of Almelund. The Friends of the Amador Heritage Center have interpreted local history for two decades in this museum.

There are arts and craft spaces available at reasonable rates. Call Diane at (651) 583-2295 to reserve your spot today. Donations of home made apple pies and desserts are greatly appreciated. All proceeds go toward reconstructing log buildings on the site.
