Library services interrupted
On Wednesday, Aug. 29, the Horizon database at East Central Regional Library suffered a serious technological malfunction.
Horizon is the software program that includes East Central Regional Library's bibliographic and patron information. Sirsi-Dynix, our vendor in Utah, was able to confirm that there was a security breach to ECRL's server.
The ECRL patron database includes very little personal patron information and the threat for identify theft is minimal.
In the meantime, ECRL is putting forth every effort to minimize disruption in library service to its patrons and to get the system back up and operating as soon as possible.
All branches of ECRL will continue to be open with limited services. Patrons will still be able to check materials out, browse the collection, access the Internet, plus ask for reference assistance. Patrons will not, however, access the library database from any branch library or from home, place holds on materials, pay fines or fees or receive any materials via another ECRL branch or any library in the State.
Be assured that we are making every effort to bring the library database back up and restore full library services to the public as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work this through problem.
