Tech Club food shelf benefit

Posted: 1/16/08

The Leave ‘Em Laughing tent and the "Tech Club" at North Branch High School are presenting an evening of classic comedy on Thurs., Jan. 17, from 8 to 10 p.m. in the high school's Edelstein Auditorium. This will be a benefit for the local food shelf, with admission to the event a canned or non-perishable food item or a monetary donation for the food shelf.

"Lel" Vice Sheik Scott Tolzmann is the chairman for the event, a sophomore student at NBHS, and a member of the Tech Club, which provides the labor when the auditorium is used for all sorts of functions.

The program for the evening will feature the Our Gang-Little Rascals in "The Pooch." Spanky and Stymie find themselves on the outs with the rest of the kids, and they're hungry. They resort to a door-to-door campaign looking for a little food "for their dog." The title character is "Pete the Pup," the circle-eyed canine member of Our Gang.

In "One Good Turn," Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are willing to work for food. When they overhear their benefactor's landlord threatening her eviction, they spring into action to help the poor widow. Costarring Jimmy Finlayson, Mary Carr and Billy Gilbert.

In "Cops," Buster Keaton is only trying to better himself when he finds the city's entire police force pursuing him. Hundreds of running police officers makes this one of the classic movie chases of all time.

"Violent Is The Word For Curly" finds the Three Stooges as service station attendants posing as college professors at an all-girl school.

The two-hour program will be rounded-out by classic comedy cartoons.

Bring a quality canned good to donate, and enjoy some great comedies on the big screen in the NB High School's Edelstein Auditorium.
