The ‘times are tough” euphemism might be a bit overused nowadays, but the Chisago County Board had that thought in mind when it set next year’s salaries for elected officials at the Dec. 28 board meeting.
The decision to keep county commissioner annual salaries at the 2011 level — $26,871 — was a unanimous one, passed without much discussion.
Board members also kept per diems for next year at the current level of $50.
Board members receive a $50 per diem when they attend assigned committee meetings.
Commissioners stressed that board members can attend committees they’re not assigned to in order to learn more about how the county functions, but the per diem would only be approved when board members attend their assigned committee meetings.
At the end of the brief salary discussion, District 4 Commissioner Ben Montzka lauded the board for the work it has accomplished this year.
“I would just like to thank the elected officials … they’re very hard working,” he said.
