The North Branch dance teams hosted the North Suburban Conference Championships with both the jazz and high kick teams placing sixth out of 10 teams. The varsity jazz placed sixth for the day with 19 rank points, behind Fridley with 15 points, Totino Grace with 10, Irondale with nine and Benilde St-Margaret’s with seven points. Spring Lake Park was first with three rank points, while Chisago Lakes Area, Robbinsdale Cooper, St. Francis and Columbia Heights placed below North Branch. The conference adds up points based on team placement at all of the conference meets throughout the season to determine overall conference standings. The Vikettes varsity jazz team tied for sixth in the conference overall with Chisago Lakes Area. The high kick team danced placed sixth losing out to a tie-breaker between Fridley. Tie-breakers are determined by adding the teams highest and lowest rank score and whoever has the lowest score wins. The North Branch junior varsity jazz team also competed at the championships and placed eighth while performing to the song “Black & Gold”. The North Branch dance team will perform at halftime of the boys basketball game Tuesday, Jan. 24 and then compete in an invitational at Mounds View High School at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.
