District 3 Commissioner George McMahon, who just started the fourth year of his term on the Chisago County Board of Commissioners, was elected chairman by a 4-0 vote Jan. 3. He replaces District 1 Commissioner Lora Walker, who was not present for the meeting.
The chairman essentially runs the county board meetings, soliciting feedback from fellow commissioners, recognizing members of the public to speak and calling upon county staff to deliver reports.
Clerk of the board DeAnna Lilienthal inaugurated McMahon into the one-year leadership position by stating, “You may now take over.”
McMahon gave a brief statement before he took the reins and ran his first meeting of the year.
“I’m committed to retaining a climate of respect, courtesy and cooperation on this board in both our public meetings and interpersonnel communications with each other,” he said. “We faced many challenges last year and we have a very lean budget. Let’s keep doing what we’re doing well and improve what we can, both as individuals and as a board.”
