Survived by her daughter Donis Samuelson Horton of White Bear Lake; son Duane (JoAnn) Samuelson of San Diego; five grandchildren Ross (Lisa) Horton of Dallas, TX; Elizabeth (Craig) Danielson of Osceola, Wis.; Katherine (Tom) Myers of White Bear Lake; Tim (Tabor) Samuelson of San Diego, Calif.; Paula (Mike) Samuelson of Breckenridge, Colo.; and eight great-grandchildren.
She lived in North Branch for 93 years and was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was raised on a farm by her parents of German and Swedish descent and was the youngest of her seven brothers and sisters.
Clara fondly remembers dancing in their kitchen while her father played the violin.
Clara was always the height of fashion. She worked at a millinery store in Minneapolis selling hats and at Strutwear Knitting Company making silk stockings.
Clara performed her patriotic duty supporting the war effort by working at the Twin Cities Arsenal. She also loved playing “ball.” She played in the National Softball League as a young woman and cheered on the Minnesota Twins from their first game. Last summer she attended a Twins game and rose from her wheelchair to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch.
She married Willard in 1935 and they raised two children Donis and Duane. They kept very close friends and enjoyed playing cards and dancing, especially a polka or schottische.
Clara’s grandchildren fondly remember her delicious cooking and tender heart. She loved rummage sales, dancing, singing, word finds, crossword puzzles, and sugar on everything.
Clara received excellent care at Cerenity and was loved by the entire staff who made sure she had on her nylons, pearls, lipstick, and rouge each day.
