Bundled up in the cold last week, laborers from Doenz Excavating used machinery to gut the interior of the city-owned, soon-to-be-demolished St. Croix River Education District building, 425 Dana Ave., in downtown Rush City.
Dick Doenz said his crew will be starting on the walls this week, and the job should be complete in a few weeks. The adjacent structures that house the library and other SCRED building will remain open throughout the job.
When complete, the city is expected to sell the lot to SCRED, which is planning to construct a new building there and on the former Creekside Pizza site later in the year.
