Get a jump start on the 2012 race season by registering for the 7th Annual Chisago Lakes Half Iron & Sprint Triathlon, set for Sunday, July 22, and the Chisago Lakes Kids Triathlon, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 21. Both events will take place at Paradise Park.
“The Chisago Lakes Triathlon has proven to be a success over the past six years with an overwhelming response of participants reaching and exceeding 1,700 participants,” says Gloria West, race director for the Chisago Lakes Triathlon. “Currently it is the second largest triathlon in the state of Minnesota and it continues to grow each year.”
The annual event offers both half iron and sprint distances. The sprint distance includes a ¼-mile swim, 20-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run, while half iron participants will complete a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run.
Fairview Lakes Medical Center/Fairview Sports and Orthopedic Care, the official Medical Sponsor of the 2012 Chisago Lakes Triathlon, will once again host free Triathlon 101 Clinics for beginning triathletes. Watch fairview.org/lakes and midwestsportsevents.com for details.
“The Chisago Lakes Triathlon offers athletes a course that is charming from start to finish,” says West.” The swim takes place at the beach at Paradise Park on Chisago Lake. The bike and run travel along fairly flat routes through the communities of Stacy, Almelund, Taylor Falls, Sunrise and North Branch.”
In 2012, more than $5,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top male and female finishers. A portion of the proceeds from the triathlon will benefit Family Pathways and the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, which coordinates volunteers for the event.
