School News: Being accountable
By Deb Henton, Ed.D.
We spend a lot of time talking about North Branch Area Public Schools’ (NBAPS) financial woes, and that is good. But as a district we must always be moving forward, improving education and becoming more efficient. In 2007 we created Mapping Our Future, a five-year strategic plan, for just that reason; to keep us focused on improving and hold ourselves accountable to you.
At last Thursday’s school board meeting, I presented the progress made on the strategic plan during the 2010-11 school year to the school board.
The strategic plan contains 126 action steps and our staff reported 1105 key activities in 2010-11. That is an incredible amount of work the community should be aware of and proud of. It shows that, despite our challenges we are constantly moving forward, trying to provide both the highest quality education possible while making the most of the funds we are provided.
The strategic plan contains many highlights, many of which I shared with the school board. They include our efforts at shared services, educational interventions and benchmark testing, a growing list of partnerships, and much more. I could write about our progress, and only that, for weeks!
I hope you will take a few minutes to review the progress we have made on the strategic plan. The presentation from last Thursday is part of the permanent record and can be found at the district Web site (www.northbranch.k12.mn.us) in the “district office” drop-down menu.
It’s hard to believe we are now on the home stretch of the five-year plan. We are already thinking about what the next strategic plan will look like. Of course, as plans are being shaped and decisions made, we will do our very best to keep you informed and involved.
