Fairbanks, Kiester key in NB shutout

The North Branch boys hockey team blanked the Pine City/Rush City Dragons 4-0 in a home game last Thursday.

After going scoreless in the first period, Zach Fairbanks scored a goal with assists from Zach Shepherd and Joey Courtright, while Jared Axberg scored off an assist by Fairbanks in the second period.

In the third, Fairbanks scored his second goal, with assists by Alex Miller and Brandon Timm, and then scored a hat trick off assists from Shepherd and Brandon Kratzke. Kolton Kiester stopped all 35 shots on the North Branch net to earn the shutout victory.

The team has a 2-3 Two Rivers Conference and 4-11-1 overall record. The Vikings will travel to Riverside Arena in Moose Lake to face the Rebels (8-10) at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, before hosting the Becker /Big Lake Eagles (5-9) at Chisago Lakes Arena in Lindstrom at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31.
