Traveling for two games last week didn’t stop the Rush City girls basketball team from adding to its win column.

First up was the trip to Hinckley-Finlayson. In a total team effort the Tigers declawed the Jaguars and took home an overwhelming 75-21 victory.

“The girls played very well tonight against the Jaguars,” said Coach Mark Henrich. “Danica Schellbach led the way, followed by Shawnee Mielke with a season high 16 points. Kristy Carlson led the team in assists. Again it was a total team effort.”

On Friday, Rush City had a bit of a slow start, with the Tigers unable to get their rhythm against the Panthers’ zone defense. By the end of the first half things started to click and the Tigers led 23-12 going into the locker room. Since both teams played even and scored 21 points in the second half, that lead at the end of the first half proved vital. The Tigers ended up with a 44-33 win.

Coach Henrich said the team will be hosting its Second Annual Pink Out The Gym on Thursday, Feb. 16 versus Braham. T-shirts are $10, crew neck sweatshirts are $25 and hooded sweatshirts are $30. Orders can be placed with any Rush City girls basketball player, or call the high school office at 320-358-4795 for more information. Deadline is Friday, Feb. 3.

“There will also be some extra T-shirts sold the day of the event,” Henrich added.

The Rush City girls basketball team is tied for second place with Isle in the Great River Conference with a 8-1 conference and 11-3 overall record. The Tigers will travel to Isle to face the Huskies (14-4) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, before traveling to Pine City to face the 8-9 Dragons at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
