David Edward Swenson

David Edward Swenson was born February 22, 1938 in Duluth, Minnesota, to Dr. Roy and Virginia (Petie) Swenson and died as a result of cancer at home in Bandon on February 10, 2012.

Dave grew up in the small town of North Branch, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school and married Virginia Ann Josephson. After high school, Dave attended St. Thomas College and then the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. He first practiced his profession in Stillwater, Minnesota.

In 1967 Dave and Gina moved their family of four to Oregon, where Dave was employed for three years at Ray’s Pharmacy in Stayton, Oregon before purchasing Ray’s Pharmacy in Bandon, Oregon in August 1970.

In August 1977, the business renamed Bandon Pharmacy moved from Old Town to its location on Highway 101 where Dave worked as a pharmacist until 2011 when his health forced his retirement.

Dave loved his family, his dogs, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Gina; daughters: Cindy (and Tom) Edson and Susan (and Ron) Card; sons: Tom (and Diana) Swenson, and Jim (and Robin) Swenson; as well as 12 “brilliant and beautiful” grandchildren: Jim (and Lindsey Pratt) Edson, Mary (and Stephen) Smith; David (and Amber) Card, Dr. Beth Card (and fiancé Greg Gallant), Dr. Amy Card; Rachel (and Mike) Roberts, Caleb (and Amber) Swenson, Hannah (and Shelby) Hodge, John (and KamBria) Swenson, Pete Swenson; Andrew Swenson, Sam Swenson; and nine great-grandchildren with the tenth on the way.

Dave will be missed by all who knew him.

At noon on Tuesday, February 14 a memorial mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bandon.  A reception will follow at the family home on Chandler Road.
