With victories over Pine City and East Central, the Rush City boys basketball team added two more to its win column.
On Feb. 6 the Dragons faced the Tigers and after a sluggish first half, Rush City sent them back to Pine City with a 59-44 loss.
“We weren’t attacking their defense the way we should and our energy level was down a bit,” said Coach Jeremy Albright. “We came out with a lot more energy and hustle in the second half. We were also able to get our offense flowing a bit more. Landon Otterness had a good game for us inside. He was all over the stat sheet. He has really stepped his game up over the last few weeks. Something that all of us knew he could do. I thought the boys really hustled in the second half and set the tone for the rest of the game.”
Last Thursday, the game at East Central was the opposite of the game earlier in the week with the Tigers ending the first half with a 16-point lead. Rush City came out slow for the second half, but prevailed to get the 55-45 win.
“Our first half was stellar,” said Coach Albright. “We were moving on defense and moving on offense. We allowed East Central to get back into the ball game. They hit some shots and we did not (14 percent) in the second half. Luckily for us, they kept score for both halves. We were fortunate to close them out at the end of the game. Landon Otterness did a great job taking the ball at East Central’s 6 foot 6 inch post. He drew several fouls and got to the free throw line a bunch.”
The Rush City boys basketball team is fourth in the Great River Conference with a 7-6 conference and 7-10 overall record. The Tigers will travel to Braham to face the #1 state ranked Bombers (20-1 record) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 before traveling to Mora to face the Mustangs (4-14) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21.
